You hear this word thrown around a lot.

Balance your energy and your body
I believe this word can mean so many different things dependent upon how you see the definition. What feelings this word balance may entail. How and why it’s so overused. But before we delve into this, we need to know the true meaning of the word.
An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.
A condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions.
An apparatus for weighing, especially one with a central pivot, beam, and a pair of scales.
Considering this, does the word balance take on a different meaning for you? And considering the first meaning, is there truly such a thing as work life balance? Let’s break this down into how you would balance your life. Keeping in mind that this balance, based on the meaning of the word, and what it would take for you to feel upright and steady? Here are a few ways to accomplish this.
Before you can balance anything in your life you need to figure out what’s out of balance. Your mindset, your health, your relationships, or your schedule. Not sure how to do this? Write a list of all the things you feel are out of balance in your life and why.
Now based on what’s out of balance in your life you have to figure out a way to steady yourself and your life. But how?
If it has to do with mindset, try scheduling 15 minutes a day to meditate and let your mind be blank. If you want to understand some key ways of doing this, check out my recent blog: “Meditation made easy.”
If you are grappling with health issues it could be caused by several key factors. 1. Lack of movement. When you take simple steps to move you become healthier. You’ll also begin to naturally listen to the messages your body is sending you to help you discover what needs attention. You can start by taking small breaks to walk around the house, go for a walk before or after work, or even take a yoga class that can help you breathe with more vitality— anything that can help you get more movement into your life. 2. There are emotional and mental aspects that may be contributing to your physical well-being. Clearing those areas of your life enables your body to better maintain a healthy balance and feel more energy as you go about your daily routine.
If it’s a scheduling thing, maybe it’s time to readjust your calendar. Give yourself 15 – 30 minute buffers before any appointment or project. Also, keeping a calendar handy and noting every appointment and project on this calendar will help you to see your day and be able to adjust accordingly.
Finding time for yourself is always key. Self-care and self-nurturing yourself are important ways to correct your overall mind/body balance. If you don’t take this time to rejuvenate and fill your mental and emotional bucket you will constantly be working on empty. Similar to the scales, when the work scale tips too heavy to one side the personal side will suffer. You can get some great tips by reading another of my blog articles, “No excuses. It’s time to care about you.”
When you balance out your mindset, emotions and body, your schedule will fall into place, allowing you to do more for yourself. This helps you make nurturing healthy energy a priority in your life. This is also when you truly capture the meaning of Work Life Balance.
Can it be attained? Absolutely, just depends on what you put in place to get there and how badly you want balance in your life. As with anything, paying attention to your energy and nurturing its reserves, along with will power and action, you can overcome any challenge that you may face.
Here’s to your journey to a Work Life Balance.
