Knowing the Bees: and how they can guide us into unity and abundance

Bees are among the most industrious creatures and have captivated us for centuries. Beyond producing honey, they have profound spiritual significance and ancient wisdom that many of us forget about. Join us as we delve into the world of bee symbolism, their spiritual meanings, their importance to our environment, and how we can help them thrive.

Many of us can learn from the bee based on their many traits including, but not limited to:

1.    Community – As many know, bees share much of the responsibility within the hive and they all have specific roles to work collectively together for the survival of their community.

2.    Diligence - Bees work tirelessly, are diligent, and productive in doing what they must for their hive.

3.    Prosperity - Bees contribute to our well-being based on being the number one pollinator ensuring the growth of 1/3 of the plants we eat, valued at roughly $168 billion annually worldwide.

4.    Sweetness – No creature produces more sweet nectar than the bee. Not only is honey the number one healthy sweetener it is also the number one allergy stabilizer.

5.    Spiritually – Bees are connected to the spiritual life in many cultures and can represent much lore and magic. With the Queen Bee, there is a strong aspect of the Divine Feminine, or Goddess energy as well.

Based on what the bee can do it stands to reason what we can learn from the Bee.

1.    Bees teach us that with cooperation and dedication you can accomplish anything.

2.    Bees show us that by working together and putting our individual needs aside we serve humanity in a much greater way.

3.    These little creatures inspire us to work hard for our dreams and aspirations yielding sweet results.

4.    Bees encourage us to find joy in life’s simple pleasures and appreciate the beauty around us. (Recent studies have even observed bees playing — when tiny balls were given to groups of bees to see whether they even noticed them, they played with them on their own and with the other bees by rolling the balls around and hopping up on them and moving on them like little gymnasts — just for the fun of it!)

5.    Bees can help us connect to our hidden Feminine energies in a positive, supportive, and constructive way.

Many cultures revere bees in many ways including:

  • Celtic folklore believes that bees host souls of the dead or foretell the future.

  •  Christians believed the bee metaphor as wisdom, care, and industriousness.

  • Egyptians believe the bee represents royalty and purity and served as a messenger to relay divine wisdom to Man.

  • The Greek myths believe the bee represents divine creativity.

It’s also believed that if you see a bee land on a flower near you this may signal a special message for you. Or if you notice bees flocking to drink water it could indicate an approaching abundance. There is a belief that if you dream about a bee, it may represent a creative breakthrough. On the other hand, should you see a dead bee this could be a warning sign to conserve your energy and not overextend yourself.

However, the bee is in crisis due to Colony Collapse Disorder. Many beekeepers have raised the alarm regarding empty hives. We also have realized a decline in wild bees as well. Why is this important? Bees are not only the pollinator of flowers, but they also help to spread this pollination to other plants to stimulate the healthy growth of these plants.

Many other species count on the bee population as well, making the bee a very important part of our food sources. As the bees go, so does humanity. They are our canary in the coal mine warning us to take care of Nature. Our survival as a species depends on the healthy ecosystem of the bees.

What can you do to help the bee population?

Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers:

Create flower borders with bee-friendly plants in your garden. https://morningchores.com/bee-friendly-plants/

Provide food for both wild and domestic bees.

Reduce Chemical Use:

Eliminate or reduce herbicides and pesticides.

Opt for organic gardening practices.

Habitat Preservation:

Let parts of your garden grow wild.

Install native bee hives or insect hotels.

Educate and Advocate:

Teach the importance of pollinators to the younger generation.

Sign petitions and raise awareness about bees and our food supply.

Support Them with Accessible Water:

Bees can get dehydrated like all animals.

During the summer or hot months put out a large bowl with marbles filled with water.  The bees will have a place to stand as they drink the water.
