How to get past old and new fears so that you can thrive.

If you’ve been reading my posts and blogs, you know all about fears and where they come from. But for those who are reading for the first time, let me break down what fears truly are.

  • Fears are based on the unknown and what ifs. What if this or that happens? What if I make a big mistake? What if it doesn’t work out? But these are all based on things that haven’t even happened yet. So why do you put so much energy into an event that hasn’t even happened?

Knowing this, how do you get over the fears right now so that you can have a life filled with experiences and adventures instead of fears?

  • Being aware that you are making a fear-based decision is a big start.

  • Identify the fear. Why are you so fearful? Where is it coming from?

  • Begin to look at this fear as if there is nothing to be fearful about. What if you just did it? What’s the worst thing that could happen as opposed to doing nothing?

Now I realize that fear can be a strong reason not to do something. But if you think back to when you were a kid, did you ever worry about whether you would get hurt? No. You just did it. You rolled down that grassy hill. You rode that bike down the street. You ran to your friend’s house when it was dark outside.

The reason most kids have no fears is because they haven’t been conditioned to think about all the things that could go wrong. Think about how free of fear your life would be if there was no one there to tell you, no you can’t do that, you’ll get hurt. No, you can’t go there, you’ll get hurt. Granted our parents and friends have all good intentions to help us stay safe, but maybe we’ve gone too far. 

We fall into the trap of making decisions based on fears for a kid’s safety when we’re actually adults now. When we do that, we’re trapped in the energy of the past. Maybe if we allow ourselves to experience life more and worry less, we would have a life filled with joy and adventure.

That’s exactly the work you must do in order to get rid of those fears. You have to un-condition your mind on the what ifs and simply concentrate on the why not.

  • Why not take a chance and move to a different city?

  • Why not try a new job to see what you’ve been missing?

  • Why not……..?

Allow yourself to be free of fear and go live life to the fullest. The only thing stopping you now are your conditioned fears. Let them go and say, “Why Not?”
