Have you had one of those days where you don’t feel like yourself?
You hear people talking to you, but you feel like your responses aren’t yours. Almost as if you don’t even recognize the person talking. You don’t feel right. Your responses are not your own. Your energy feels depleted or even scattered. When did this happen? Was it just recently, or was it over time, and are you just now noticing it?
There are times in our lives when we seem to hit a turning point. When we feel beat up and can’t even see the person looking back at us in the mirror. Believe it or not, this is a normal occurrence especially if you’ve been dealing with:
A loss in the family.
Caregiving for a loved one.
Material issues or divorce.
Family transitions with adult children moving back home with their family.
Financial loss or stress.
Whatever the experience may be, life can catch up with us, leaving us unrecognizable to not only ourselves but the ones around us as well. You may not know when it started, but it seems like you’ve left little pieces of yourself here and there until you feel fractured.
But how do you find yourself again, the REAL YOU? Not the one people expect you to be. The person you started this life out to be. The one who had dreams of climbing Mount Everest, traveling all over the world, being a ski instructor, visiting all the ballparks all over the United States, becoming an artist, yet those dreams seemed to fade when you started a family, bought the house, got the temporary job that was only meant to be stepping stone until the big break. We all go through it at one time or another. When our childhood dreams shrink and fade away because of what others have told us that we could or couldn’t do.
But I’m here to tell you that no one knows what you need or want better than YOU. No one can tell you that you aren’t fast enough, good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. Doesn’t matter what they think. What matters is what YOU think about yourself. What you believe you can do. That’s the real YOU. But how do you get the real YOU back with all the chatter around you? You start here.
Have pep talks with yourself in the mirror every morning by telling yourself, “You got this, you can do anything you put your mind to.”
Start by thanking those around you for the advice, yet letting them know that no one knows you better than you, and you got this.
Learn to listen to your inner voice (Higher Self or your intuition) that has your best interests at heart all the time.
Start visualizing the person you are and always strived to be. See that person, and you can be that person.
Write down what people say you should or shouldn’t do in a journal to get it out of your head and then simply write next to it. Thanks, but I got this.
You may even think about utilizing outside sources to help you get rid of the chatter in your mind.
With the new year, isn’t it time to get YOU back? The real YOU? Make this year the one where you put what everyone else feels you should do aside and listen to your heart and gut. What is it telling you to do? Start listening to your inner voice and less to those around you. Let your energy thrive.
