Getting to the other side of a year’s worth of life with a positive outlook

When you started this year, I bet you expected it to end a lot differently.

  • You had goals to achieve, but maybe they didn’t come to fruition

  • You planned on getting your mindset right this year, but then life took its toll

  • You wanted to buy that new house, but then the market got in the way

Whatever you had planned for this year, you may be doing more mourning than celebrating. That’s something we all tend to do as a habit.

When we have a full list of things to accomplish and still find some unmet, we tend to forget about all the things we managed to accomplish. Even though the process of making a list can help you manage your expectations and get more accomplished, it can also be detrimental for those who only look at the items that have not been crossed off the list. Is this you? Do you see a list and base your celebration on how many, or few are left on the list to do?

Maybe it’s time to relook at your list—and year— and learn to celebrate all the wins. Instead of looking at those that have not been completed, you look at your list differently.

  • Maybe it’s time to see if the goal is still viable

  • Maybe you need to rephrase the goal

  • Maybe it can come off your list because things have changed

No matter how you look at your list or lists, we all need to celebrate the wins throughout the year. And yes, there are always wins no matter how small they may be. When we celebrate these wins is when we appreciate each year. Make it easier on yourself as you make your new list while lifting your energy for the coming year with some of these tips.

  1. Make a list of everything you want to change as well as get accomplished.

  2. Put a star next to everything that you’ve completed as you go, instead of crossing it out.

  3. Treat yourself to something special after you’ve completed 4 things on your list.

  4. At the end of each year write out what you changed in your life for the better and how it helped your self-worth.

  5. Honor and celebrate your wins, and realize you have another year to solve a new list of accomplishments.

Now you can look at your lists differently and be much more positive throughout the year. Remember to celebrate your wins, all of them, and don’t get hung up on the ones that did not get completed.

Here’s to celebrating more.
