Any loss is a hard pill to swallow, but the loss of a pet seems to take on a whole new meaning. I realize that when you lose a family member or friend it can be devastating. But most will say the hardest loss was the loss of their pet.
I believe this grief can be much harder to deal with, because many times this loss is met with guilt or the feelings of regret.
Did I pull the plug too soon?
Could I have done more?
I didn’t even get to say goodbye.
How will I survive without you?
Let’s face it, most of the time when we lose a pet, it’s because they’ve either become very old or sick and we’ve had to make that difficult decision to let them go. Or they’ve been hurt so badly we’ve been forced to let them go and didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye. We are faced with a loss filled with guilt or no closure. This can be a hard thing to digest however you may view it. But there are ways to get past your grief and guilt.
First, you have to stop blaming yourself. There comes a time when we all have to make that difficult decision, but we need to trust ourselves that we are making this decision based on their quality of life and the love we have for them.
Take the time to grieve and let your emotions flow. You need this time to simply be in the moment of your grief. This allows the love you shared to come forward in your mind and heart. Remember all the good times.
If you have other pets around, allow them to help you heal. They are grieving as well for their fellow friend.
Sometimes you may need further help that outside sources can provide, such as Energy Medicine.
There are also ways to connect with your pet to help you both say goodbye while allowing your energy to find balance even as you acknowledge your grief.
(If you want more information on this, feel free to set up a free consultation with me.)
When you take this time to process your grief and/or work to say your goodbyes, it can help you close the door, yet never forget. As pet owners we all know that our pets have a much shorter lifespan than humans. I believe this is why this goodbye is so hard to process. You might even feel jilted. Like you didn’t have enough time with them.
Regardless of your beliefs, there is a realm greater than the physical one so inadequate in such moments. It is the greater realm, we can still connect with our pets and loved ones. When this realm is tapped into you can truly get the closure you need and still feel their presence and love. If this is something you are interested in, I invite you to contact me so that we can work together to get you the closure you may need.
Much love to you during this transition.
