No that doesn’t mean you need to join the military!
Considering all the things our military is taught to do, the last thing that may come to mind is how to sleep. It does make sense, considering the training regimen these men and women must endure to know how to deal with battle.
Think about the battle we all go through each night when our heads hit the pillow and the one thing you want most of all alludes you, SLEEP. We all need it, but when you’ve had one of those days or are finding it difficult to turn your brain off, what do you do? You do what the military does.
Recently the Independent Staff came out with an article on the trick the military uses getting 96% success in helping people get some much-needed sleep. Want to know their trick?
Here’s how it goes:
First, relax all the muscles in your face, including your tongue, jaw, and around your eyes.
Drop your shoulders as far down as they will go as well as your upper and lower arm one side at a time.
Now breathe out, relaxing your chest and legs starting from your thighs and working down your body.
Spend 10 seconds trying to clear your mind before you think about one of the three following images:
Imagine you are lying in a canoe on a calm lake with nothing but clear blue skies above you.
Imagine you are lying in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room.
Say to yourself “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” to yourself over and over for a count of 10.
They say that it is critical for us to get around 8 hours of sleep each night to be fully rested. In fact, when we sleep deprived, we become more prone to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. I realize that sleep can be a difficult thing when we have so much to deal with each day. But it is also a very important part of our overall health.
Often, we may be unconsciously holding energetic or emotional patterns in our body or mind that can get in the way when we want to relax or even try to breathe calmly so we can get to sleep.
If you find you need help getting some deep and restful sleep, you may consider Energy Medicine which is known for help you release much of the thought patterns that keep you up all night. Interested in learning more? Get in contact with Carolyn Osborn.
