Are You Putting Your Life on Hold?

When you look at this past year many of us have had to put our life on hold. 

  • Wedding plans put on hold.

  • Birthday bashes put on hold.

  • Vacation trips put on hold.

  • Spring break put on hold.

  • Graduation ceremonies put on hold.

Even though every state is essentially open, and many people are starting to travel again, what does this do to your plans, mindset, family dynamic? Many of us are just getting out of our COVID cocoon and seeing family members for the first time in over a year. Some of us are planning that much-needed vacation however, there are still many who are dealing with a whole new affliction, agoraphobia.

Agoraphobia – Is the fear of leaving the house. They feel unsafe in large crowds, confined and/or open spaces, getting in a car, bus, taxi, or they can simply go into high anxiety mode. 

Because so many of us stayed home and went nowhere until we felt safe, this has caused a huge uptick in agoraphobia. Many are having panic attacks simply walking out the door. But how do you get past this when you’ve spent the past year and a half inside?

As with any disorder it takes baby steps and working on your mindset. If you are dealing with this affliction here are a few tips you can do to help you enjoy life again.

  • Go outside for short periods, even if it’s simply going out the front door.

  • Take deep breaths and count to 100. By paying close attention to your breath and counting helps get your mind off the fear and anxiety.

  • Go for a short walk. Try taking 10 steps, counting the whole way. Then take 10 steps back. Work yourself up to going further each week.

  • Energy medicine can help you work through much of your fear allowing you to let the fear go.

  • Take each of the above steps a little at a time and have someone nearby should your fear and anxiety levels start to increase rapidly.

It’s time to stop putting your life on hold and start getting out. It’s time for you to see family and start living again. As humans, we need this interaction more than ever.
