How Fireworks and Pets Don’t Mix

Before, during, and after the 4th of July many pet owners deal with fearful pets. Even though many of us may be in a celebrating mood and want to enjoy the fireworks, we tend to forget how this affects our pets.

This holiday alone is the number one cause for pets getting lost and/or injured. You may think they will be okay in the backyard as you all head off to the firework show, but then come home to find a hole in the fence and your beloved pet(s) missing. This isn’t how anyone wants to spend their 4th of July holiday, but it happens to many, many families with pets. So, what can you do?

First, you have to understand how loud noises, flashing lights, and smells can cause your pets high anxiety. They don’t know what’s going. All they know is that they want to flee as quickly as possible. However, there are ways you can help your pet(s) deal with this holiday in a healthy way.

  • Keep pets inside with some soothing music playing in the background.

  • There are CBD products that are safe for your pets and can help them stay calm. You can find these at many pet stores. (Always check with your vet first.)

  • Your vet can help you with relaxing meds that can help your pet stay calm.

  • Energy medicine is a helpful way to work on their mindset and fears. Want more info on this? Contact me to find out how.

Keep in mind that many times your neighbors will start with the fireworks early, whether they are legal in your area or not. Get these necessary things in place to keep them stress-free for the next several weeks. Remember, you can’t control your neighbors all you can do is protect your pets.

Whatever you do this 4th of July holiday, keep your pets safely inside to help make this holiday one you can all enjoy.

Happy 4th to you and your family,

Carolyn Osborn
