Horses are an animal in their own league.
They certainly aren’t anything like a dog or cat and much like these other pets, they have many quirks that we don’t understand.
Here we will investigate these quirks and help answer the why behind them.
Full Tooth Laugh - What we think looks like a laugh is actually their way of analyzing a new smell.
Butt Scratch – As we know it can be hard for horses to reach their butt, so many times you will find their friends lending a hand by scratching each other’s butts with their teeth. Not only are they helping each other out, but this is also a sign of respect.
Their Child Like Side – Give them a big ball and watch them play for hours. Just like with kids, they get bored. Spend a little playtime and watch how their behavior improves.
Rolling Around on the Ground – What we may think as their way of playing in the dirt, there are several reasons for this behavior:
They are taking a dirt bath.
Similar to a bear using a tree to scratch, they are doing the same thing by rolling in the dirt.
It also helps their backs stay in good shape as it tends to help them naturally crack their backs.
Regardless of the reasons, it can be a fun watch.
Just as we play with our cats and dogs it can be fun to do the same with our horses. They too have a playful side, and it can help the bond between rider and horse become a much more unified one.
Here’s to your horse’s health!
