There are several tips out there to help keep your horse at optimal health, but here are a few items you might consider having on hand to help in many situations. Some may surprise you.

  • Baby Diapers = These are great when tending to wounds. They help keep water out and keep the wound protected.

  • Use Your Med Syringe for Treats = If you have a horse that doesn’t do well when they see the medicine syringe come out, try putting some apple sauce in the syringe and feed them a treat. This will help them equate it with a treat helping them get past the medicine anxiety.

  • Bob for Apples = Have them work to get apples out of a bucket of water. This can help them burn off excess energy by keeping them engaged.

  • Dryer Sheets = If you find while grooming your horse the static electricity is causing their mane or tail to fly up, simply wipe them down with a dryer sheet. It takes the static electricity right out for a much smoother coat.

  • Lemon Water = This is a great and cheap way to get rid of the bugs. Cut up a lemon and put the whole thing in a pot of water. Heat the water to a boil, take it off the heat, and let it sit for about 10 hours. Then put the juice in a spray bottle and spray your horse. Cheap and natural bug spray.

  • Wood Pallets = By keeping your hay stored on wooden pallets you cut back on the dust that can accumulate if left on the floor.

  • Shower Cap = You can keep your food bug-free with a simple shower cap. Just put the shower cap over the bucket and keep the bugs away.

There you have it, some handy things that can help you keep your horse healthy and happy, and you as well.

Here’s to your horse’s health.
