Have you ever felt like you were on an island waiting for someone to pay attention to you and your needs?
Well, you’re not alone. In fact, there are many in the same boat as you.
When we become so wrapped up in our lives, we tend to ignore those around us. We find ourselves on the outside looking in. Especially when life becomes complicated for those of us who are dealing with: Becoming a caregiver for a loved one.
Working from home with the only contact with colleagues via a computer screen.
Caring for small children at home.
The COVID stay at home sanctions keeping us at home more often than ever before.
Being out of work and feeling uncertain how to proceed
It can seem like we are the only ones going through these trials and tribulations. As humans, we need connection with people, loved ones, friends, and colleagues. We can feel alienated from the rest of the world believing that we are the only ones experiencing this. It can at times feel like a lonely existence.
But what many of us don’t realize is how many others out there are going through the same thing. So, how do we overcome these feelings of disconnection when many of us are still asked to stay at home?
You can make changes in your life to get off the island of disconnection by:
Taking a hike, or some activity outside to get in touch with nature.
Finding a support group to help you deal with your current situation.
Adopt new habits of mindfulness by meditating and journaling to help you release uncharted emotions.
Call or Zoom a friend or family member to stay connected.
Have a movie night with the family in the backyard with popcorn, candy, sodas, and fun, or over Zoom.
Reach out to others online going through the same thing.
Read those books you have piled up, waiting for you
The one thing you need to remember is that you aren’t alone. You have people you can turn to; you have options. Simply by changing your outlook and working towards a better mindset you can feel like a part of the world again.
Here’s to a healthful life,
Carolyn Osborn
