For some of us who have been around for some time, this title may sound familiar, as it came from a beloved series called, “Mister Ed, the Talking Horse.”
Can you imagine if your horse could talk? They could tell you they don’t feel well, how you could be gentler, how they are hot and thirsty, or that you are too hard on them.
Can you only imagine how differently we may treat them if we knew what they wanted and were thinking? It would be safe to say that your riding and relationship would definitely change.
So, let me ask you; if your horse could talk, what would you change?
Would you be kinder when your day wasn’t going well?
Would you treat them differently?
Would your riding technique change?
Would you know how to help them feel better?
Maybe it’s time to rethink your riding and how you treat your beloved horse. Especially if they knew he/she could talk. I realize this isn’t a reality we currently live in, but just as with social media, do you really think many would actually say half the things they post online if they had to tell each and every person face-to-face? Of course, they wouldn’t. Just as how you would react if you knew your horse could talk. I would be willing to bet you would be treating them differently.
The next time you go out riding and have had one of those days, it might be best to:
Take a deep breath to let it all go.
Meditate to put your mind at ease.
Look at it from their perspective.
Skip the ride and get yourself in a better emotional space.
Remember, it’s not your horses’ fault that your day hasn’t gone well.
Don’t let your emotions spill over to your riding.
Let your ride be a way to let the day go away and become one with your horse as you both let go of the outside world.
