Yes, you read that right. Your pet’s poop may not be a topic of choice, but it can tell you a lot about your pet’s health. Regardless of whether you have a dog, cat, horse, or other furry critters, their poop can tell you a lot. Let’s go into some of the ways poop patrol can help you find out more about your pet’s health needs.
Diet: Your pet’s poop is a direct reflection of their diet. If they have well-formed poop, it means they are getting enough fiber in their diet.
Digestive Issues: Constipation or diarrhea can tell you that something is not right in their diet. But it’s up to you to pay attention. It can be an indication they are stressed or anxious, or their gut biome is out of balance.
Some Health Hints: When you see abnormal poop, these can signal health issues such as intestinal parasites, infections, dehydration, or even cancer. This is why it’s so important for you to pay attention to their bathroom habits. Especially if you see any blood or other foreign objects, get help immediately.
Emotional Insights: As with you, your pet can have health issues due to stress and anxiety. This could be based on changes in their routine, environment, or medications. They could also be taking on emotions to help you through a tough time.
So how can you tell that your pet is healthy or having issues simply based on their poop? Here are a few things to look out for, and based on what you find, it may be time to set up a vet visit.
Consistency: A healthy pet poop should be between hard and soft consistency. Not too firm, but not too runny either.
Color: Dogs usually have shades of light to dark brown. Cats are more of a grayish brown. However, if your pet’s poop resembles a neon rainbow, it’s time to call the vet.
Size Matters: The size of the stool should match their food intake. If they’re feasting like royalty, expect larger poops. If they’re on a diet, expect smaller nuggets.
No Unwanted Guests: It’s important to check for parasites or worms, which can usually be visibly seen.
Are they more stressed than usual? Their emotional or energetic state could be impacting their poop and whole digestive process.
Now that you know what to look for how can you help your pet have a well-balanced tummy for optimal poop health?
Diet: By feeding them high-quality food you help them have a nutritional balanced diet. Getting them the best and most natural diet possible.
Hydration: As with you, your pets need to drink water. Also, remember that not all water is the same for your pets as with you. They still need some of the nutrients in water so be sure to only serve them water that is not ROI or completely free of these nutrients.
Regular Vet Visits: It’s always a good idea to have regular check-ups with your vet to stay on top of your pet’s health.
Exercise: The more movement your pet has the better gut health they tend to have. Be sure to schedule regular walks and playtime!
Stress Management: Just as with you, your pets can experience stress too. By creating a calm environment and staying calm as well you help your pets have gut health.
Energy Medicine: Can be a great way to help your pet get rid of past emotions that could be causing gut issues for them. Consider contacting an energy medicine practitioner to help them release these emotions for a healthy life balance.
Probiotics: These are not only good for you, but they can be beneficial for your pet as well. You may consider adding probiotics to their diet.
Even though checking your pet’s poop is not the most glamorous job, it can help you catch health issues early before they become a huge issue later down the line. By simply paying attention to not only your pet’s poop but their actions during their bathroom ritual will help them stay healthy.
Here’s to your pet’s health.
