Before the twentieth century our ancestors spent much of the Fall getting ready for the cold winter months by preparing both their home and farmlands to ensure they could make it through the harsh winter. But what can we incorporate into our current lives based on our ancestors’ actions?
Making the best use of time. If you are standing in line at the grocery store you can close your eyes and conduct a mini meditation-while-waiting. While dinner is cooking in the oven you can take this time to sort the laundry, a meditation-in-action. During school pickup, take this time to say your affirmations out loud. As you can see such little downtimes are best to do things not only for you, but a way to get things done that can give you more relaxed and naturally energizing me time later in the day.
Repair what’s not working. This can be for both your business and personal life. Look at all the things in your life that have not worked for you and review ways to improve these as you think ahead to next year. Not only will this help you stay on track, giving you attainable goals, but will help resolve much stress as you will be prepared when the new year approaches. You can also let go of anything that is not working. No need to carry it forward. Find what does work, release it, and go forward without that unconscious anchor in the past.
Move more. Start walking more or do morning stretches to keep your body moving. Take the stairs, park farther away from the store and you can put on some music and dance your heart out! Our bodies were made to move and not be sedentary all day, as they are made of energy. Keep your energy moving and you will be more productive!
Plan. This is the best time to start your goal setting and planning out how you will achieve each one.
When you put many of these in place it will not only help prepare you for the upcoming year, but it will also help you experience much less stress knowing that you have a plan of action.
These can also work for your household, and I recommend you have a calendar noted on the fridge with all your collective goals. Each time a household member achieves a goal you can all celebrate with a night out at the movies, go to your favorite restaurant, or have an ice cream night— whatever this looks like for you and those who live with you.
Here’s to Autumn’s energy for planning and achieving your goals.
