How you can stop derailing yourself.

Have you had one of those days where you headed off to work and got cut off by a driver, you got to work only to find out that the promotion you wanted was given to someone else with less experience and knowledge?

You head home and stop by the grocery store only to find that the parking spot you were waiting on gets snagged by another driver. You get home to find the kids arguing and find the house a mess. Not one of your best days.

But what if you changed your attitude from the first incident and viewed everything in-between as a gift? Do you believe your day would end any differently?

It's said that we have the option to change our circumstances with each interaction we have. But many of us tend to derail our day by allowing outside factors to take over our mood and allow it to dictate how our day will go and end. If this is the case, how do we stop this from happening and work to stop allowing those outside sources to derail us? By choosing the karma you want to create.

Now, I understand how many may be saying, “Wait a minute, I can’t control what people say and do around me?” This is true. But you can control how you react to these people and outside sources. But you have to keep these three things in mind:

  • Use your senses to recognize the event. In other words, use your eyes, ears, and nose.

  • Recognize the emotions coming to the surface, the sensations you feel, and how your subconscious is reacting.

  • Last is to notice how you react to any given situation, and what energy arises within you.

Now let’s take this same day with the above in mind and see how differently it could have turned out for you.

  • You head off to work and get cut off by a driver, but you realize that you don’t know what that driver is going through and thank the universe that you were able to stop in time.

  • You get to work and find out that someone else was given the promotion you wanted, but then realize that maybe this happened because something better is on the horizon for you and you congratulate them on their new promotion. Shortly after that, you are offered a raise for all the work you’ve put forth for the company.

  • You stop at the grocery store on the way home and park much farther from the door, as you realize the walk will be good for you.

  • When you get home, you find the kids arguing. So, you stop to hug each of them, and ask them to help you put the groceries away while they tell you all about it.

As you can see, a much different day was realized based on your actions. Now, I realize that life can be infuriating at times, but how we react to this fury is the most important key. Realize that you can only control your emotions and actions not that of others. You simply waste your precious time and energy on things you can’t control, when you should be concentrating on those you can control.

This is how you prevent derailing yourself: by recognizing the situation and acting based on what you can control, your emotions and actions, and letting go of those things you cannot control. When you master this is when you master true karma.
