Why are we so hard on ourselves?

As the saying goes, “No one is harder on yourself than you.”

You tend to beat yourself up for the littlest of things. You allow those feelings of unworthiness to fester and before you know it, you become your worst enemy. But why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we judge ourselves so harshly? Why do we hold onto words, that turn into feelings, that turn into self-defeating beliefs?

We all grapple with this, but how do we get out of our own way to move forward in a positive direction? There are many ways you can do this, but the biggest factor in this will be YOU. You must put in some work to get your belief systems in balance. Start here:

  1. Clean out all the negative talk and thoughts in your mind. You can do this through meditation, journaling or energy medicine.

  2. Get rid of the relationships in your life that hold you back and simply make the negative self-talk worse.

  3. Put together a list of affirmations and say them out loud every day in the mirror until you truly believe in them.

  4. Know that no one is perfect. You are not working to be perfect you are working to be whole.

  5. Counteract any negative chatter with positive talk. If you catch yourself saying something negative, say immediately CANCEL, and rephrase it more positively.

  6. Reward yourself when you hit milestones: ~ You stated your affirmations out loud for one whole week. ~ You counteracted the negative chatter in your head with positive talk. ~ You let go of the relationships that were only tearing you down. Reward yourself for all the wins no matter how small.

By repeating the above process, you can finally rid yourself of the negative chatter that causes you to be so hard on yourself in the first place. When you quiet this chatter is when you become your best friend instead of your worst enemy.
