Actually, some anxiety can be good for us as it helps protect us from many dangers, such as:
If a bear is approaching
Crossing a busy street
You’re in a bad neighborhood
Lost in the woods
A large wave hits while surfing
These are normal types of anxiety as these help us to survive when our brain goes into flight mode.
Our levels of anxiety help our brain decide whether it is a life or death situation and how to act accordingly. So, these types of anxiety situations are definitely beneficial to have.
However, there are times when we may have chronic high anxiety simply because of stressors in our lives like:
A death in the family
Financial strife
Loss of a job
A move to a new city or state
Starting a new job
All of these are not based on danger nor are they life threatening, yet they still cause us to have high levels of anxiety. In most cases, anxiety is brought on by fear of the unknown or the “what if scenarios” we play in our minds. But the one thing you have to remember is that this fear can cause our blood pressure levels to increase, heart palpitations, sweat, or get physically ill.
So, how do you combat anxiety that’s not really a life-threatening situation and is simply due to the unknown factors? With these Energy Medicine techniques you can manage your anxiety.
Educate yourself. Do some homework, look online, or find help in this arena to help you understand the unknowns.
Can I do anything about it? Do you have any control over the situation, and if so how can you improve or fix it?
Write out the worst-case scenarios and how those may play out. Then come up with a plan for each one.
Find resources to help you cope. Call a friend, see a therapist, or call Carolyn Osborn.
Whatever works best to help you put the anxiety to rest so that you can manage any fearful or unknown situation. That’s simply what anxiety is, a situation where we feel we have no control over the outcome. However, 9 times out 10 we do have control. We simply can’t see it at the time.
