I keep hearing how many people are frustrated at the fact that their memory seems to be diminishing. They fear that there could be underlying health issues, but the fact may lie in a totally different area.

Believe it or not, anxiety can cause memory loss, and considering the high anxiety today it’s no wonder that many of us are struggling with this. Have you found that when you start a sentence you simply can’t think of the word you want to say?

  • Are you finding it more difficult to come up with simple things such as movie titles or the actors within the movie?

  • Do you find that you set something down only to find that you can’t remember where you put it?

These can be caused by high anxiety in your life and/or lack of sleep. Many are complaining of having a hard time sleeping at night, which can cause a slew of physical and mental issues alone. So, how do you combat the anxiety?

  • Get more sleep: Try doing deep breathing exercises several minutes before you go to bed to help you release the day.

  • Worry less: Easier said than done, but in realty can we really worry about things we have no control over? Simply keep focused on the things you can personally change.

  • Meditate: This doesn’t have to be complicated or long. Even 10 minutes a day of focusing on your breathing, grounding and letting your mind go blank can be a big help.

  • Exercise more: I get that you hear this a lot, but there’s a reason. More exercise can help release anxiety and help you sleep more soundly. Even a simple walk around the neighborhood is better than sitting on the couch watching TV.

  • Getting back into a routine: Start getting up at a certain time each morning, eat breakfast at the same time, go for a walk at the same time. By simply keeping a routine you help your body release stress.

Taking simple steps today will help decrease your anxiety and increase your memory power.
