Is Your Horse Lonely?
You’re managing these trying times, but how is your horse managing?
Are you riding more or less?
Are you spending less or more time grooming your horse?
When your routine is thrown out the window, due to unforeseen circumstances, it can affect everything in your life. Including the regular practice rides with your horse.
Maybe your horse is boarded somewhere else and you can’t get out, due to the stay at home orders. So, how is your horse coping? Is the boarding staff walking your horse on a regular basis or riding them around the arena for some much-needed exercise? Even if they are, they aren’t you. They don’t have the same connection with your horse that you do. So, how do you cope? How do you get connected with your horse when you aren’t there? You Zoom or simply call with my help.
Now, I realize that if you are a boarding facility, and reading this post, your reaction is, “What?” “Are you kidding me?” But here’s the fact; by simply taking time to allow your clients to speak with their horse it helps make your job easier. Why? Because now that horse is less likely to act up, get depressed, or simply stop eating.
As a horse owner myself, I understand it’s important for our pets to know that we haven’t abandoned them and that we are still, and always will be here for them. But your horse may not know this. No interaction may be telling them that you have moved on and have simply left them to deal with the hurt. Yes, hurt, because horses can feel as we do.
So, get your phones out and do a Zoom or Video Chat. Let your horse know how important they are to you and that you do care.
