Horse Riding -
Which is Your Favored Riding Style?

CEM April 2020 Horse Riding Your favored Style.jpg

There are many different types of horse riding, and each one can be exhilarating, relaxing, or downright exciting dependent upon your sport or style of riding.

There are also may be many new to the equine community who may not be aware of the many options.

Here’s a list of just a few, it will be up to you to decide your favorite:

Dressage – was developed towards the horse’s natural athletic ability and willingness to work. Many times, this style will help them to be calm, supple, and attentive to the rider.

Eventing – is a combination of dressage, cross-country, and stadium jumping.

Show Jumping – is divided into 3 different classes: hunter, jumper, and hunt seat equitation.

Western Pleasure – is a quality of movement while traveling the perimeter of an arena with directions of a walk, jog, lope, and reverse direction.

Reining – are where the horse is guided through precise patterns of circles, spins, and stops.

Cutting – is a rodeo-style where the rider and horse demonstrate herding and singling out cattle.

Barrel Racing – is just that, racing in a complete pattern around barrels placed in a triangle noting the fastest time.

Endurance – is made up of 25 and 500 mile rides testing the endurance of both the rider and the horse.

Gymkhana – is a timed obstacle ride with a variety of events showing off speed, agility, control, and responsiveness.

Saddleseat – is to show off high trotting, where both horse and rider are judged on elegant movement.

Racing – is when all riders get set at the gate and once the gun is fired head off at a great speed to see who’s the fastest rider and horse.

As you can see, there’s a plethora of both riding styles and sports for you and your horse to attain greatness.

But as I’ve noted over the years, it’s very important that both your communication style and ability to stay calm under pressure goes a long way when competing. As you may or may not know, I have helped many of my client’s get real results when it comes to performing in competitions across the globe.

Warmly,

Carolyn Osborn
