Some of you may be reading this title and asking yourselves, “what in the heck is a mental health day?”
And you may not be alone, but believe it or not, it is something you should be practicing on a daily basis. But before we go into the benefits let’s go into exactly what signals you it's time fort a mental health day.
Are you stressed beyond belief?
Have you been experiencing mood swings?
Are you finding things falling through the cracks?
Do you have high anxiety when you start work?
Each of these is the reason why many take mental health days, which is where you take a day off. That means no work, no housework, no work at all, you simply take this day to mentally take a break.
How do you do this?
Meditate and clear your mind of all the past days, weeks, and months.
Relax completely. If that means a long bath, a massage or simply sitting outside and closing your eyes it can help you relax.
Decide what you need most. Sleep, relaxation, a pamper day, whatever that looks like for you.
Get in touch with your feelings and journal.
Now, this doesn’t mean this is the day to feel sorry for yourself, dwell on the bad in your life or think about all the things you have not accomplished. This only defeats the purpose behind the mental health day. This is a time to get more in touch with you, your feelings, and what makes you happy.
This is a day to retreat from the world and get in touch with you.
Get to know the real you that’s been hidden.
Find all the good that you have accomplished, even if that means you got to the doctors on time.
It’s a win. Celebrate these wins, each and every one of them.
I highly recommend you have a mental day at least once a month.
This will not only help you become a better you, but it will also help you look at life with a totally different aspect.
Here’s to your health.
