Believe it or not, negative events tend to stick with us more because of the way it makes us feel. When we feel hurt it tends to stick with us more than when we experience happiness.

This thought process can be linked way back in time when we had to pay attention to threats in order to survive. This is why our brains are hardwired to remember negative events as opposed to positive ones. Our brain sees negativity as a threat, thus the reason they stick with us more often.

But does this mean we can never be happy? Absolutely not!

We simply have to rewire our minds to react differently. Now how do you do this when you tend to find negative thoughts creeping in?

Energy Medicine can empower you by taking these steps to help calm the negative talk.

  • Stop the negative thoughts in their tracks:

    • Pay attention to your negative thoughts and when they seem to creep in. Instead of dwelling on the should have, would have talk, let’s look at it from a different angle. Think about the lesson you learned from this event or incident and how you plan to handle it differently the next time it might occur.

  • Setup new patterns of thought:

    • Find ways to get rid of the negative talk in your head by going for a walk, listen to upbeat music, or take your mind away with a good book.

  • Savor the positive events: 

    • Think of how it made you feel to be happy and have everything go your way. You felt like you could conquer the world. Be grateful for all the good things that are in your life. Remember this so that when those negative feelings or thoughts start to invade, think of how wonderful it was to be happy.

By simply changing the way we react and think during negative events, it can help us reframe our actions so that the positive stays with us instead of the negative. Trust me this may take time and much practice, but eventually it will become second nature for you.

As you train your mind to spin the negative into a positive you will find life challenges simply that, a challenge to learn from and move on. Allow yourself to be happy and dwell on the happiness in life as you learn from the negative events.
